Slow Miles (slowmiles.run) is a running site based in South Africa. This page explains what we collect when you use it, what we do with it, and how to get it deleted. If anything here is unclear, email support@slowmiles.run.

What we collect

  • Your Google sign-in: your name, email address and profile picture.
  • What you add: your username, races, goal times, plan settings, ticked-off sessions, medals and race results, and any feedback you send us.
  • Strava, if you connect it: your runs and other activities (distance, time, pace, heart rate, elevation, splits and best efforts) and the access needed to keep them in sync.
  • Prize claims, if you win: the name, postal address and phone number you give us, or an email address for vouchers.
  • How the site is used: Google Analytics records pages visited, device type and rough location using cookies. We also note when you open the installed app.

What we use it for

  • Running your account and building your training plans.
  • Sending your weekly coach email and occasional updates. Every email has a link to stop them, and you can turn them off in Settings.
  • Running the weekly challenge and getting prizes to winners.
  • Working out what to improve on the site.

Who can see it

Your runs and plans are only shown to you. The community page shows totals for everyone added together, never your own runs. If you win a challenge, we name you by your username, or your first name if you have not set one.

We do not sell your data. We use a few services to run the site, and they only get what they need to do that job: Google (sign-in and analytics), Strava (your activity sync), Railway (hosting and our database) and Resend (sending email). Prize details are used only to deliver your prize.

Strava data

Data from Strava is used only to show you your own training. We do not share it with other members or anyone else. Disconnecting Strava in Settings deletes your synced activities from our database. You can also remove access from your Strava settings.

Keeping and deleting your data

We keep your data while you have an account. You can ask us to delete your account from Settings, or by emailing support@slowmiles.run. Deleting removes your account, races, plans, medals, synced runs and any prize details for good.

Your rights

Under South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) you can ask to see the information we hold about you, correct it, or have it deleted, and you can object to how we use it. Email us and we will sort it out. If you are not happy with how we handle it, you can complain to the Information Regulator.

Keeping it safe

Your data is stored with a hosting provider that keeps it secure, and only we can get to it. No system is perfect, but if something ever goes wrong we will tell you.

Changes

If we change how we handle your data, we will update this page and the date at the top. If it is a big change, we will email you too.
